Update: WSOP Day 1B Sees Good Turnout


2,114 hopefuls on the second day of the main event

There has been a great turnout of players in WSOP main event Day 1B ndash; as many as 2,114 of them, which brought the total sign-ups so far this year to 3,160.

The ‘Shuffle and Deal’ call was given by UFC fighter and celebrity player Georges St. Pierre, who opened the action that included some big names ndash; the likes of Dennis Philips, Collin Moshman, Dan Harrington, Mickey Petersen and Ashton Griffin, former Detroit Lions tight end Eric Stocz, Jason Somerville, Maria Ho, Jake Cody, Eugene Katchalov, Brian Rast and Darvin Moon.

There were also former champs Peter Eastgate (2008), Dan Harrington (1995) and Carlos Mortensen (2001), with Mortensen going towards the exit along with Greg Raymer, by dinner break. Others that dropped out were Dennis Phillips Carter Phillips, Adam Friedman, Scott Montgomery and Victor Ramdin, as well as Tom Dwan, Gavin Griffin, Jason Koon, Ville Wahlbeck and Joe Sebok.

Better luck accompanied Scotty Nguyen, Huck Seed, Dan Harrington, Peter Eastgate and Jerry Yang, along with Daniel Negreanu, who held one of the big stacks, as well as Bryan Pellegrino, Maria Ho, Jason Somerville, Galen Hall, Sammy Farha, Eugene Katchalov and Shaun Deeb.

In related news, an announcement was made at the tournament on July 8 that 2010 champion Jonathan Duhamel will be awarded a new WSOP main event winner’s bracelet as a replacement for the one that was largely damaged in a robbery at his home late last year.
